Workers' Compensation
One of the most important issues facing businesses in West Virginia is the cost of providing Workers' Compensation coverage to their employees. The West Virginia Chamber has been a leader in bringing about reforms in the area of Workers' Compensation, including the landmark 2005 legislation that is leading to the privatization of the state Workers' Compensation program.
At the present time, Workers' Compensation coverage is provided by BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company (www.brickstreet.com) and is regulated by the State Insurance Commission. Staring in July 2008, West Virginia will open its Workers' Compensation market to a competitive environment with multiple carriers.
The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce has a policy committee devoted to Workers' Compensation issues, and the committee members are many of the leading experts on this matter in the state.
