W.Va Leads Nation in GDP Growth

Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginia led the nation in GDP Growth in the 1st Quarter of 2019 according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce is pleased to see West Virginia’s GDP Growth at 5.2%, leading all other states in the nation.

West Virginia Chamber President Steve Roberts stated, “A month ago today we were thrilled to find out that West Virginia led the nation in personal income growth for the first quarter of 2019. Today’s news from the BEA that West Virginia also led the nation in GDP Growth during this time frame is just the latest evidence that West Virginia’s economy is strong.”

Monthly data from Workforce West Virginia that was released earlier in July showed that June employment for 2019 was the strongest for the month of June since 2008. That same data also showed that over 25,000 jobs have been created in the past four years, with the bulk of that growth occurring in just the last year.

Roberts continued, “West Virginia has been in the top twenty states in the nation for GDP Growth in both 2017 and 2018, but this first place ranking is a testament that pro-growth, pro-economic development policies work. Now is the time to double down and continue seeking to make ourselves even more competitive.”
